About The Gardener

Located at 1836 Fourth St, Berkeley, CA 94710, The Gardener operates as a garden center serving Berkeley in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under home goods store, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In Berkeley, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in California, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 11 amโ€“5:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach The Gardener at (510) 548-4545; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, thegardener.com.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 43 reviews, which is a strong result for a garden center in Berkeley and suggests consistent service.

Berkeley is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Berkeley follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

One of my favorite retail stores! If youโ€™re looking for inspiration for your interior or garden, this is the place to go. Thereโ€™s a thoughtfully curated rotation of seasonal finds, so every visit feels like a new discovery. And a fun surprise: they have one of the best selections of soaps around!

This place has nice interesting things but at least one very rude staff. I saw the door opened but didn't know the shop was not open yet. As I walked towards the door, a staff yelled at me with a blank face, "We are not open yet." The shop has nice merchandise but poor staff training. How unfortunate.

Nice stuff and curation but donโ€™t stand in front of a register and make me go all the way around because you โ€œcanโ€™t ringโ€ if you have paperwork to do then go to the office. He was perfectly happy to help some people right before but couldnโ€™t be bothered to help me? Hm

Purchases and their receipt stolen with luggage at Oakland airport. Called 3 times asking for copies of receipts. Was told I needed to call back as they were doing inventory. 2nd call took my contact info and was told theyโ€™d call back. Didnโ€™t happen. Called a 3rd time. They took my info but never sent receipts. Buyer beware. Their post sale service stinks!!!

Worth the drive to Berkeley. Beautifully curated shop. Unique, thoughtfully stocked with original items you won't find everywhere. A gem. Bought this gorgeous original artwork for a punch of color in my modern, monochromatic kitchen.
